Black Self-Determination History Stories Music
The legacy of the Safe Bus Company is one that we aim to elevate by spotlighting under-represented narratives through music and culture as vehicles for storytelling. We believe that music and culture are powerful tools for telling stories, and we want to use them to tell the story of the Safe Bus Company and other stories like it.
But what does Black self-determination mean? It means taking control of your own destiny, even when the odds are stacked against you. It means building your own table when a seat isn't offered. It means standing up for yourself and your community, even when the odds are against you.
The Safe Bus Company is a testament to Black self-determination. The company was founded during a time when access to opportunity was limited for many Black people. But despite these limitations, the Safe Bus Company thrived for nearly 50 years. It represented Black ownership, resilience, and the power of building your own table when a seat wasn't offered.
